I am a licensed and tenured NYC Public Schools Librarian at a competitive high school here in Brooklyn. I have 15+ years classroom experience as a highly rated middle and high school ELA teacher with several years co-teaching experience in Special Education.
I have a wealth of experience preparing individuals, small groups and whole classrooms of students for standardized exams (NYS Regents, SHSAT, PSAT/SAT, AP, HSE). I have taught reading and math instruction to 4th and 5th graders, and I have privately tutored students of all ages in multiple subjects.
I have also coached, mentored and taught adult learners, including pre-service teachers; led professional development and conducted school trainings in social emotional learning, culturally responsive teaching and trauma informed practices; and presented my work at the district level.
My teaching and tutoring approach is strengths-based. I meet my students where they are at, discover their interests and learning styles, and design effective and engaging opportunities to practice and master skills. Meaningful assessment and actionable feedback are key to my practice. My wheelhouse includes explicit instruction in reading and writing, executive functioning, overcoming test anxiety, project-based learning, media literacy and much more.
I see myself as a learner first. Currently, I am learning how to sew and exploring the educational impact of AI. I like comic books, gardening, information literacy, spa days, and ice cream, in no particular order.
